Which plug?

CCS (Combo)

Fast-charging plug of most electric cars. The cable is attached to the charger.

Type 2

Standard slow plug. Bring the cable from your boot.

CHAdeMO

Older fast-charging plug (Nissan Leaf).

Household socket

Very slow. Emergency only.

Fast or slow?

Fast chargers (50 kW and more) fill most cars from 10 to 80% in 20–40 minutes. Slow chargers (up to 22 kW) take several hours: good for overnight or while shopping.

Step by step

  1. Park in the charging bay.
  2. Fast charger: take its cable. Slow charger: use the cable from your boot.
  3. Start with a bank card, the QR code on the charger, or a charging card.
  4. Wait. About 30 minutes on a fast charger for 10→80%.
  5. Stop on the screen or card, then unplug (some cars: unlock in the car first).

How do I pay?

New fast chargers in the EU must accept a bank card. Otherwise scan the QR code and pay in the browser. Rental cars sometimes have a charging card in the glovebox.
